retro movie poster of greek beer

This came about from my first Sober trip to Greece at an all inclusive, if you want to read about that get it here --> Dry Tripping.

Anyway, back to the trilogy. I had 3 main beers to choose from whilst in Zante/Zakynthos : Alfa Choris Zero, Fix Zero and Amstel Zero.

Here are a reviews

Fix | Anef Zero 0% 4/5

Was this beer sent down from Dionysus for our pleasure?

The Greek Beer Trilogy - Part 1

Let's get into it

First and Last Impressions

I grabbed an ice-cold can, sat on the veranda and poured it into a wine glass, it was

that or a plastic cup and nobody likes beer in a plastic cup!

It poured well, a light golden clear colour with a nice amount of body and a quick fizzy head. Not much of an aroma, but as it's a standard lager I wasn't expecting it.

The first taste was bliss, crisp, clean and fresh. Very well-balanced flavours, nothing overpowering or bitter. Nice mouthfeel, I would say light with plenty of fiz, but not so much to be confused with a soft drink. The aftertaste was a mild malty taste, tiny amount of bitterness just a pleasant lager flavour with maybe a hint of sweetness.

I continued to hunt this beer out whilst on my holiday as it was a brilliant all day and night refreshing beer.

The Final Score

This was the best local beer I tried whilst in Zante/Greece.

Ticked all the boxes, great enjoyable drink and to be honest made my holiday finding this.

To sum up, a great all-rounder for a well-balanced non-fussy lager.

If you're in Greece hunt this down you will love it.

well done @fix_hellas

First and Last Impressions

Another cold can sitting by the pool, poured into my favourite wine glass. It's a golden amber in colour, a little richer than the Fix zero. This has a malty, mildly sweet oat aroma as it comes out the can, its quote strong, its looking good. This one has quite a good foamy head and it hangs around, its not rushing away.

First taste is very fizzy, good body. The flavour is again malty , I would describe as sweet bitter biscuit. The finish is a dry bitter digestive that doesn't last long. The mouthfeel is good, very similar to a standard euro lager, not watery and pleasant.

I have noticed with some of the non craft type beers/lagers that the flavour seems to me to be forced somehow. I'm not sure what that means, it's as if they use MSG to boost the flavour ( I know they are not, well I hope not ).

This is a good lager, I dont think I would want to drink this all night as the dryness and bitterness becomes tiresome, but its good for a few if it's all you can get your hands on.

It's ok, I enjoyed it , I enjoyed a few to be honest and I would enjoy it again next time I'm in Greece.

To Sum up, its an enjoyable lager with plenty of taste and good body, nothing special just a solid lager.

Amstel | 0.0% 2/5

Can one of Europe's favourite beers go from hero to zero ?

The Greek AF beer trilogy Part 3 - The finale

The great Amstel in a 500ml bottle, dripping with condensation is freed from the wonky hotel room fridge. Crack open the cap and poured into a wineglass . It has a lovely deep amber colour and a reasonable head that dissipates as quick as cat hearing a hoover!.

It has a very malty smell and is slightly sweet.First taste is heavy with malt with a hint of stale malted milk biscuit sweetness. The mouthfeel is ok, it somehow feels forced like it has some chemical in it to give it that body. It is very much like a Lidl Perlenbacher  which is a shame. The finish is as quick as the head, sweet malty with a strange sourness. It's not great.

Erm it's not that good. But let me say if you are Dry Tripping and its is all you can get, it will see you through, Just.

The flavour is too sweet and malty for me with little of anything else. Again it tastes forced.

To sum up, it's a basic AF beer, served very cold it will pass. I would not choose it if there is a choice, but if your not drinking and at a gathering or having a meal it will do.
